Small enough that you will meet whoever fits you before you book, and that the person who measures your clubs is usually the person who builds them.

Marcus Ostler Founder, lead fitter

Marcus opened the unit in 2009 after eleven years split between a repair counter in Murray and a component supplier that sold to independent builders across the Mountain West. That second job is where the method came from: he spent his days listening to fitters describe problems that turned out, again and again, to be geometry.

He runs most of the iron and driver sessions and does the majority of the bending. If you have been told your ball flight is a grip problem and you do not believe it, he is the one to book.

Dana Kirkham Build bench, grinding room

Dana came from a machine shop two doors down and joined in the first year, which is how the unit ended up with a floor-bolted gauge and a ventilation setup that handles epoxy properly. Everything that gets built here passes across her bench, and everything that leaves gets measured twice.

She handles wedge sole work, ferrule and hosel repairs, and the swingweight corrections that most shops skip after a length change. She is also the reason the tolerance figures on the rates page are honest ones.

Sione Fifita Junior and family sessions

Sione joined in 2016 from a junior program on the west side of the valley and took over the growing-player work almost immediately. He measures more eleven-year-olds in a month than the rest of us do in a year, and he is blunt with parents about when a club has run out of adjustment and when it has not.

He also runs the hybrid and fairway wood benches, which suits him: both are about finding the rung where one club stops working and another starts.

Aubree Tanner Front bench, putter setup

Aubree joined in 2019 and handles the diary, the component orders and the putter bench. She came to fitting sideways, through a decade of competitive play in which nobody had ever measured her for anything other than a stock set marked with a flex letter.

That experience shaped a large part of how this shop now handles women being fitted out of averaged specifications. If you have been told a set is "for you" because of what colour the shaft is, start with her.

Nobody here earns more for recommending an expensive shaft than a cheap one. That is a payroll decision, not a slogan.

Working practice

Why a fitter also builds the club

In most shops the fitting and the assembly are done by different people in different rooms, often in different cities. That split is efficient and it costs accuracy. A fitter who never assembles the club stops noticing which specifications are difficult to hit, and an assembler who never watched the session cannot tell which numbers on the sheet were hard-won and which were rounded off.

Here the person who read your sole tape is the person cutting the shaft. When a build lands half a swingweight point off target, they know whether that matters for you specifically or whether it is inside the noise. That knowledge does not survive a handover.

It also means the four of us argue about tolerances more than is probably normal, which is how the figures on the rates page ended up being tighter than the industry expects.

Ask when you book and we will place you with them if the diary allows. It usually does, although Sione's junior slots on Thursday afternoons fill several weeks ahead in spring.

Training and calibration

What keeps the numbers trustworthy

The loft and lie gauge is checked against a certified block twice a year and the date goes on the wall next to it. The swingweight scale is zeroed at the start of every build day. The gram scale is verified against a calibration mass every Monday morning before the first job.

None of that is glamorous and none of it appears in advertising anywhere. It is simply the difference between a measurement and an opinion, and it is the reason a build sheet written here in 2011 can still be matched exactly today.
